The Jerusalem Cinematheque is inviting directors and distributors to send films made from 2009 to 2011. The festival is interested in films with ethnographic orientation which deal with a variety...

... of issues concerning the complexity of cultural, social and political life of individuals and communities around the world. Closing date is the 1st of June 2011.

The Jerusalem Cinematheque in cooperation with the Department of Sociology and Anthropology, The Hebrew University of Jerusalem, Israel, is happy to announce the launching of the first Anthropological film festival in November 2011. The festival will also be happy to receive films made in departments for visual anthropology. The event is placed in Jerusalem, November 1st – 4th, 2011.

AVIVA-Berlin-Hinweis: Lia van Leer, die Gründerin des Israel Film Archivs der Jerusalem Cinematheque und des Jerusalem International Film Festivals ist dieses Jahr mit der "Berlinale Kamera" der 61. Internationalen Filmfestspiele geehrt worden.

Der israelische Dokumentarfilm "Lia" wurde unter der Rubrik Berlinale Special Ehrung gezeigt. Im Mittelpunkt des Filmporträts steht die Filmpionierin Lia van Leer. Sie wurde 1924 in Bãlþi, heute Moldawien, geboren und 1940 von ihren Eltern zu ihrer Schwester nach Israel geschickt, wo sie den Krieg überlebte.

Zusammen mit ihrem Ehemann Wim, einem Ingenieur, Piloten, Stückeschreiber und Filmproduzenten, rief sie verschiedene Filmclubs ins Leben und gründete 1960 das Israel Film Archive. Es folgten die Kinematheken in Haifa, Tel Aviv, Jerusalem und weitere Initiativen. 1984 gründete sie das Jerusalem Film Festival, dessen Vorsitz sie bis heute hat. Lia van Leer war mehrfach zu Gast bei der Berlinale und übernahm 1995 den Vorsitz der Internationalen Jury.
